CAAF ORGANISES WORKSHOP FOR GAS AND PAC
CAAF ORGANISES WORKSHOP FOR GAS AND PAC

The Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation (CAAF) has organised separate workshops for members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and management staff of Audit Service at Ada and in Accra respectively. The workshops were aimed at improving the relationships between the two institutions to ensure greater accountability.

Opening the workshops, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the CAAF, Mr. John Reeds said CAAF is dedicated to strengthening public accountability through comprehensive audits. He appealed to the Audit Service and the PAC to see their relationship as mutually inclusive and continue to support each other. He urged the PAC to strive to be non-partisan in their work and ensure the full implementation of their recommendations. He also noted that submission of timely audit reports is necessary to make PAC relevant to the accountability process.

The Auditor-General, Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo, noted that the Service requires collaboration with stakeholders, particularly, the PAC to promote good governance and accountability and bring improvement in the lives of citizens.

The Chairman of the PAC, Mr. James Klutse Avedzi, noted that such capacity building workshops go a long way to make the Committee effective. “The PAC should work in the interest of the people of Ghana but not in the interest of any particular party because the PAC is a party with no colours”, he opined.

Key issues discussed included effective planning for PAC meetings and hearing; mechanism and relevance of effective follow-ups on PAC recommendations; and promoting effective GAS/PAC relationship.

Resource persons were Messrs. John Reeds and James Oulton of CAAF, Mr. David Christopherson from the PAC of Canada, and Ms. Annerie Pretorius from the African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) Secretariat, South Africa.
