Veep swears in New Auditor-General of Ghana

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on behalf of the President has sworn into office Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu as the Auditor-General (A-G) of Ghana. Mr. Asiedu’s appointment takes effect from 27 August, 2021. He becomes the ninth A-G of Ghana since the position of Auditor-General was first created in 1951 and the fifth A-G of the Fourth Republic.

Until his appointment, Mr. Asiedu was the Deputy Auditor-General responsible for the Public Boards Corporations and other statutory agencies. He was first appointed to act in July 2020.

Administering the Oath of Office at the Jubilee House, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia urged the new A-G to be diligent and professional in carrying out his mandate.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Asiedu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve his country and honour done him. He pledged to partner the Board, Management, and other key stakeholders of the Ghana Audit Service to protect the public purse as well as enhance transparency and accountability in public financial management.

Mr. Asiedu joined the Ghana Audit Service in December 2004 as an Assistant Auditor-General and Head of the Internal Audit Unit. Before joining the Audit Service, he had worked for seven years at the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), now Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), rising through the ranks to become Head of the Finance Department.
