Board Chairman’s Christmas Message

Once more I find it an honour to send this Christmas message. The year 2021 has particularly been an eventful one. The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, appointed Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, the then Deputy Auditor-General in charge of Commercial Audit Department, as the ninth Auditor-General of the Republic of Ghana.

During the year the Board sanctioned the recruitment of over 250 persons to fill assistant auditor and auditor grades in the Service. The Service was granted an improved salary structure with effect from 1 January, 2021. The staff thus received handsome back pay for the 2021 Christmas.

Towards the latter part of the year the Service awarded contracts to build 31 district and regional offices for the Service. Our newly constructed district office at Agona in Ashanti Region was commissioned at an impressive ceremony. On 21 and 22 December, 2021 the Service held its maiden District Auditors’ Conference in Kumasi. The President of the Republic of Ghana delivered the keynote address. The conference brought together all our District Auditors to deliberate with each other and share ideas. It was also attended by our Regional Auditors and supported by the Deputy Auditors-General. The theme for the conference was “Ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the State Auditor in a digitised economy”. My special thank you goes to the Board Members who supported the conference throughout its deliberations.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic is still existing globally and has even turned itself to Omicron, what that means, only the World Health Organisation knows. The good Lord, however, was merciful to us and so we are all alive. Please take care of yourselves during the Christmas holidays.

On behalf of the Board let me end by thanking you all for your support and hard work. We wish you a safe and very happy Christmas and a New Year filled with peace, joy, productivity and prosperity. God bless you all.

Prof. Edward Dua Agyeman
Chairman, Audit Service Board
